setting up an internet radio station - Part 2: Choose Streaming Radio Software Platform

streaming radio software - shoutcast tutorial - icecast tutorial - jetcast tutorial

The nice thing about starting an internet radio station is that all of the software is available for free. Each package has its own licensing and terms of use but I have used each of them and had success each time I set them up. So here are the three main players in the field (email me if you have any other packages to suggest).

shoutcast tutorialSHOUTCAST - originally developed by NULLSoft - the makers of WinAmp - they were purchased by AOL and now are a part of the AOL brand. Shoutcast is tightly integrated with WinAmp and if you are just starting out I suggest you download and install WinAmp first if you intend on using ShoutCast to stream. Here is a link to the become a DJ page on the ShoutCast site if you want to jump into it right away - otherwise - here is our own shoutcast tutorial page

icecast tutorialICECAST - IceCast is an open-source project from xiph.org that has created a very robust streaming server that uses a minimum of resources. TUTORIAL COMING SOON

jetcast tutorialJETCAST - JetCast is a free streaming server developed by a Japanese company (COWON) and it is tied into their JetMedia Center. But the JetCast is a standalone app as well and it is probably on of the quicker ways to get started streaming. TUTORIAL COMING SOON
