03/12/2009 - We have enhanced our listings with many new features
It has been a while since we updated this page but we make updates to the site almost daily. Some of those changes are quite visible, others are not. On the homepage we have integrated the very cool Cumulus Tag Cloud by Roy Tanck - it is populated by our most popular keyword searches and genre picks - so YOU the listener populate it. One click on a term will bring up a search results page with radio stations serving up that kind of music. Sweet!
Another item we have integrated is for broadcasters - we now track outgoing listener clicks on broadcaster station links - so log in and click on your station name to view how many listeners we have sent your way. If you like getting listeners from StreamFinder.com then drop us a note at the contact link below. We never get enough feedback.
We have also upgraded our station management screen to allow stations to enter a lot of new information about where they are located, their IM handles, multiple stream data and many other tidbits. This will allow us to roll out some interesting new geo-specific features later this year. If you haven't updated your station listing yet - please log-in and do it - then you will appear on our global map of stations and in other cool tools we will roll out soon. So UPDATE YOUR LISTING!
For listeners we have improved our search result time - making results a lot faster and enhanced the saving of your favorite stations.

05/22/2008 StreamFinder.com enhances the saved station preset features with.... widgets!
Now, all members can start to save their own favorite stations in a more robust way than just by using cookies (our first attempt). When a user logs-in to the site they will start to see checkboxes next to each listing - if you like a station - check the box next to it and it will be saved with your profile.
Then your presets are displayed at the top of all site pages for quick clicking once you are signed up.
And you can add them to your igoogle page (and others like facebook, netvibes, etc. soon) using our favorite stations widget.
This is a great feature for our listeners to be able to start "collecting" a set of favorite stations in one place with one touch listening access.
07/20/2007 StreamFinder adds account upgrade options
As our listings swell to over 5,000 we realize that some of our users want to promote their stations a bit more than just by listing in our directory results. To help them out we are offering an account upgrade option with some real benefits:
• Station Logo presence on homepage and on genre pages for all upgraded accounts
• Upgraded accounts always appear at the top of the search results for their chosen genres
• Upgraded accounts have 'webshots' of their homepages along with their listings. No webshots for regular listings.
• Pop-up player available with hi and lo stream links and integrated google ads from *your* account

06/18/2007 StreamFinder for mobile devices is released
We are happy to make available a streamfinder interface optimized for mobile devices. Streamfinder mobile can be found at http://www.streamfinder.com/mobile and should work well on any mobile / hand-held device. From streamfinder mobile a user can:
• Keyword search for stations in our listings - with LIVE NOW PLAYING info
• Browse our station listings by Genre - with LIVE NOW PLAYING info
• Browse our award-winning "Featured Stations"
• See the most recent stations listed
• Contact us with any comments or suggestions
Right out of your phone or mobile device. We are compiling a section in our resources page where mobile device audio players are listed. Please suggest any others that you might know of.

04/25/2007 New Sidebar Available
Get the streamfinder experience in a real sidebar you can add to your browser... save favorite station, stream right off the bar... search, browse, etc. It is in Beta (isn't everything around here?) but we will get it fixed up nicely.
09/05/2006 Site Edits - AAC+ Designations and Thumbshots
Added thumbshots for any stations that are in the DMOZ. If you stream and have a website - submit it to the DMOZ http://www.dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Sound_Files/MP3/Streaming/Stations/ Pick your genre and submit your site. Once you are included then your thumbshot will show up next to your listing. Thumbshots are cool.Added a way for stations to designate their streams as AAC+ (orban stream format) a great quality, low-bandwidth stream format. _BUT_ all you MAC users are not supported. iTunes _might_ be getting AAC+ format in the future but for now you cannot get it with iTunes. Anybody know a MAC player that supports it? Maybe Windows Media Player for Mac OSX with the AAC+ plugin? Anyway these iTunes users were emailing me telling me "Your site is broken I can't hear any streams..." well hopefully the stations are ON and if they are AAC+, sorry.

StreamFinder.com has released an interesting beast into the wilds of the web... we call it streamSpider and it is a tool designed for our ISP's and streamhost friends who host many hundreds and thousands of streaming stations. Many of them want to bulk list their stations on StreamFinder.com but do not have the resources or data source to provide an accurate XML feed to us with all their station information.Enter the streamSpider, he(she) crawls servers, discovers shoutCast and iceCast servers, categorizes their genre using a proprietary method and lists them automagically on StreamFinder.com. Everybody wins! This directory gets a list of serious streaming stations, the ISP's help their client stations get more listeners and the stations get more exposure and traffic.
If you are an ISP and want this free service then get in touch on our contact page. If you want your ISP to provide this service, just email their support desk and ask. If you don't ask you get _nothing_ but sometimes if you ask they will say sure! Tell 'em StreamFinder sent you.
09/03/2006 Slow Site Fixed
"Hey your site is slow...". Not anymore! We are using AJAX to load in NOW PLAYING data on our homepage and that is allowing it to load much, much faster. Now we can sleep at night! We are also using Cache_Lite Pear package to cache infrequently changed content. Traffic has increased 2x in the last month so every tweak we can put in place helps load time. Man AJAX is cool. As a developer it is a nice tool to have in place.08/03/2006 Favorite Shows Window Added COOL!!!
If you use StreamFinder.com to listen to shows then this feature is FOR YOU! When you find a show that you like just check the box next to it to save it in your favorite stations cookie. Yes, cookie, a lazy way to save this stuff but better than requiring registration, right? So your stations will be saved on your local computer cookie for 1 year, well 356 days (9 short of a year because we transposed the last two characters while typing fast, looked at it, laughed and went on). "Hey your site is slow...". No sh** buddy - when you are doing live http:// requests of NOW PLAYING data for 25 - 200 stations at a time you are going to take a hit. BUT we think we might've come upon a solution. Cache_Lite from the PEAR collection of used code. Homepage updates every 3 minutes and genre pages update every 1/2 hour. Should result in a faster loading site. Next up will be paging of results into clumps of 20. Anybody have any hosting they would like to donate? I think this shared hosting account is getting tight around the collar. MediaTemple is great but they want $69 a month for a Dedicated Virtual server plan. Seems a bit spendy... any suggestions?08/03/2006 ISP Listing Service Added

Here at StreamFinder.com we have two groups we serve... those who listen and those who broadcast and stream. We have been doing a lot for the broadcasters but now its time for us to do something for the listeners... we are developing a sidebar with customizable genre listings, favorite stations, presets and... NO ADS. We would love to package it up as a FireFox sidebar extension but we'd also like to solve the conflict in the middle east and learn how to make bottles. By popular demand we have added several new genres. For the era-specific listeners we have added 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. And for the population that speaks the eighth most popular language in the world (?) we have added Bengali / Bangara. We also added KPop - Korean Pop. Hoping to make it to Chicago's Korea Fest next weekend - wrestling in the street, KPop bands and Bi Bim Bop a favorite around here. My neighbors turned me on to a band called Harry and the Potters. They are a Harry Potter tribute band that dress like Hogwarts students and rock out tracks like Voldemort Can't Stop the Rock and Give It Up For Fred And George. Too funny... so I went onto their site and found a link to more free tracks at DayTrotter.com - Turns out some folks have opened up a vintage audio recording studio in Rock Island (one of the quad cities if you have to know) and they invite touring bands to drop in, record tracks on their analog system then they release the fingerlings into the stream all for free. Now we like free - have you ever paid us a cent? So we _love_ DayTrotter.com and you should too.
